World-famous conservationist Professor David Bellamy believes that many parks
are not just great places to stay. They are also, he says, making a significant
contribution to the natural world - by providing expert management of the
countryside and the environment.
Now you can use the David Bellamy Conservation
Awards to guide you to parks where it's not just human guests which benefit
from caring owners. Here you will often find that many different animal and
bird species, plus plants, flowers and trees, have also found these to be
ideal habitats in which to flourish.
To win a David Bellamy Conservation Award,
parks must demonstrate their commitment across a wide range of environmental
considerations. As well as helping to protect and enhance flora and fauna,
they must have positive policies on concerns such as waste management, recycling,
landscaping - and even providing shielded lighting so that guests can enjoy
the night sky. Professor Bellamy assesses prospective award parks himself,
in conjunction with the Conservation Foundation (see www.conservationfoundation.co.uk)
and supported by independent surveys carried out by local wildlife or conservation
groups.
The awards are made at Gold, Silver or Bronze levels -and this year, there
is also a special category of parks which have achieved the Gold level for
five years in succession.
Staying on a David Bellamy Conservation Award park
can add an exciting new dimension of discovery to your holiday.., and many
provide special nature trails and children's activities which focus on exploring,
understanding and appreciating the precious natural world around us.
